The frame material itself is tested from -40°F to 180°F and is engineered to resist dents, bends, and breaks, meaning even in a direct hail hit, the frame holds where vinyl or aluminum-clad frames often don’t. Colorado sits in what meteorologists call Hail Alley. The Front Range, Denver, Centennial, Highlands Ranch, Englewood, Parker, Littleton, takes direct hits most years between April and September. Hailstones here regularly reach golf-ball size and travel at speeds above 70 mph.
Standard double-pane glass will crack or shatter under that kind of impact. For homes in hail-exposed areas, we recommend asking about laminated glass upgrades on your Anlin or Pella Impervia installation. Laminated glass won’t prevent cracking, but it keeps broken glass bonded to an interior interlayer preventing sudden water intrusion, interior damage, and the safety risk of loose shards.
It’s also worth noting that new windows with laminated glass may qualify for an insurance premium discount through your homeowner’s policy. We’d recommend checking with your carrier.
