If your roof has been damaged by the sporadic Colorado weather, it’s time to start looking for a Denver roofing company to install a new roof. Maybe you’ve spent a lot of time researching the type of roof you want to have installed for the best performance and aesthetics. However, choosing the right roofing installer is just as important as choosing the right type of roof.

Remember, your main focus shouldn’t be on finding the lowest price. If one roofer offers a far lower roofing quote than the competition, avoid doing business with them. Instead of just comparing prices, look for these three qualities in a Denver roofing company before you hire them.

The Roofing Company is Licensed

Every state has different laws regarding contractor licensing. In Colorado, a formal licensing board is responsible for granting licenses to qualified contractors. Ask for potential roofing companies’ license number so you can double check it with the licensing board.

Unlicensed roofing contractors may be able to offer low-ball prices because they don’t bother to pay for liability insurance, workers’ compensation or unemployment for their workers. Lower upfront prices are tempting to many homeowners who want their new roof installed for less, but the low-ball price isn’t worth it.

Without licensing, there’s no indication that the contractor even knows what they’re doing or that their work is guaranteed. You could end up paying much more in the long run if you choose an unlicensed roofing company.

The Roofing Company is Insured

In order to obtain a license, a contractor must have two forms of insurance. The first is general liability insurance, which removes responsibility from you if a worker is injured while installing your roof. As you can imagine, being a roof installer is dangerous work. You don’t want to be held liable if someone slips and falls.

The second is workers’ compensation insurance. This further removes liability in case an injured employee has to miss work and pay medical bills as a result of an injury while working on your property. Workers’ compensation insurance pays these costs in the event of an accident so you don’t have to.

The Roofing Company has Positive Reviews

It’s one thing to be licensed and insured; it’s another to have a long history of satisfied customers. Learn from others who have hired Denver roofing companies in the past by reading reviews online. Check Yelp, Angie’s List and the Better Business Bureau to discover how different roofing companies stack up against one another.

When you’re ready to work with a licensed, insured and reputable Denver roofing company, contact 5280 Exteriors for a free Denver roofing quote!

    Mick,
In your web picture of shingle installation, how come you are not installing the underlayment. Underlayment should be installed prior to running your shingles.

Hi Christine, thanks for calling this out! You are absolutely right. We install synthetic felt underneath all asphalt shingles on all our jobs. It acts as a moisture barrier to protect the OSB. We don’t have a professional photographer on staff, so sometimes use stock photos, like this one, on our site. It’s not 100% representative of our exact work—good eye!
